SOCIAL
PROTECTION
INTRODUCTION
The World Bank Group has launched an ambitious initiative to strengthen social protection and promote
inclusive employment globally, with the goal of reaching 500 million poor and vulnerable people — including
250 million women — by 2030. This program is part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce poverty, enhance
resilience, and promote gender equality, in response to challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic,
economic crises, and climate issues. It aims to support governments in establishing robust social protection
systems and active labor market policies, thereby fostering the inclusion and empowerment of the most
vulnerable populations.
KEY AREAS OF INTERVENTION
The program’s main lines of intervention are structured around the following priorities:
Strengthen systems by expanding safety nets,
improving digitalization, and integrating efforts into
national policies.
Social protection systems
Create and refine programs and partnerships
that offer training, support entrepreneurship,
and create decent jobs.
Employment and economic inclusion
Target actions for women that increase inclusion and
reduce barriers to economic participation.
Gender equality
Enhance capacities to respond to shocks and ensure
support to the community.
Resilience to crises
